Washington Street Station

The Washington Street Station was constructed in 1884, two years before the construction of Hales Opera House, now the Keystone Theatre.  In December of 2004, the BCRAC purchased the building, which had been vacant for 3 years.
In the three years since, the BCRAC and an oversight committee of community members completed the following:

  1. Complete replacement of the deck
  2. Construction of a parking area and grassy area for the Farmer’s Market
  3. Purchase and renovation of the baggage car used for display and storage
  4. Complete renovation of the south end of the Station by the Weigh Station Café project partners
  5. Grand Opening of  Pennsylvania North Country Artisan Center and Store at the North end of the Station.
  6. Commissioning and installation of the conductor chainsaw sculpture (Time Flies) by Heath Bender.

Currently, the Washington Street Station is open seven days a week and depending on the weather residents and visitors enjoy the deck or interior spaces.  The Artisan Center, by collecting zip codes of purchasers, has established that Towanda is visited by many people from throughout the USA.
